I was just perusing the latest edition of HOT ROD magazine (Feb 2015 Edition).

With the demise of all Pontiac specific magazines it's hard to find much about Pontiacs anymore. Yet, right on page 48, I spotted a '69 Firebird. I read the short side piece and noted that it had taken the "Super Street Big Block Naturally Aspirated" competition with an average winning ET of 10.304 @ 133.196. BTW, it wasn't a "Big Block Chevy" but a Pontiac aftermarket MR-1A (KRE) aluminum block. Among other things it sports ported KRE hi-port heads. Its quickest ET was 10.165. The block displaces 535 cubes. The owner of the Firebird is Vince Rasch.

Pretty cool, don't you think?

"Dedicated to keeping the classic Pontiac engine alive."

400 bored +.030, forged TRW pistons, ported 62 heads, Hedman headers, 2.5 SS dual exhaust X Pypes, Comp 276AH10 cam, Scorpion 1.65 RR, 850 Q-jet, stock intake & tuned HEI; original owner.

I saw that too. Good to see but we need more of this stuff.

Bowties are for Pee-wee Herman. LS swaps in Pontiacs should only apply to Fieros.

Awesome! I've been wanting to do up a '69 bird like that one day. Here's another MR-1A 500+ CI in a '70 judge I seen on Facebook courtesy of TIP.
