Here's my current set up

68 Firebird, 350, th350, 3.42 Nova 10 bolt

Putting a fresh 461 in it this spring. plan was to build 200 4r with CK performance rebuild kit and converter.

I ahve read that many people don't thing that a 400 stroker / 455 needs that much rear gear. So something like a 3.08 could be a less expensive change that will make it a good highway cruiser.

What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks!
Kyle

Depending on how big of cam the 461 should be fine with a 3.08.Tom

My 428 was mid compression, XE262, was pretty fun even with 2.56s and OD! Literally like 1700 RPMs at 70-75mph. Still was very fun stoplight to stoplight, seat of your pants, etc. Did burn outs, pulled hard. That cam and setup was all down low torque like a stock setup though. It was even happier with 3.42s and OD. I'd say 3.08s would have been about the same with a 1:1 ratio. 455 would have a little more torque than the 428 all else the same.

Cam is probably going to be an XR276HR.

Either route is good but converter choice is critical in both scenarios. BTW, if going with the 200-4R, go with Lonnie Dyers (Extremeautomatics).

Bowties are for Pee-wee Herman. "Chevy": even the name sounds cheap, but not as cheap as your Pontiac will be with an LS transplant.
