Here's Bobby Johns. He's the guy Junior Johnson was drafting in the '60 Daytona 500, when the back glass was sucked out, causing him to spin, handing the win to JJ. But he got back on the track quick enuff to take 2nd. Junior said the Pontiacs were 30 mph faster than his Chevy, so he knew the only chance he had was to draft a Pontiac. It worked.

Some days are just more fun than others. If you race in a circle, you'll have to "ride the hook" sometimes.

I'll bet the Chevy boys hated having to run against so many fast Pontiacs. #47 is another one they had to deal with.

Looks like we made it to victory lane without a RR tire. I'm assuming he lost it during the smokey victory burnout.

Jack Smith built his own. He said he was late getting to the Daytona 500 one year, and qualified 3 mph faster than the pole sitter. But they didn't let him start on the pole because he was late. He got a top 5 finish.

I think this is Marvin Paunch with a remake of a Smokey built Pontiac that won the '61 Daytona 500.

Nobody can win races without good pit stops. Notice how far pit safety rules have come since these old days. Well, it appears that this pit stop may take longer than expected. Photobucket has quit working. Will continue when possible.

I think FB qalified on the pole 3 times at the Daytona 500. He won just about everything you can win at Daytona in '62.

When you win, you get to have your pic made with the trophy girls. I think one of these was a Miss America.

I think, because of the background, I'll have to vote for model. But with modern tecnology, just about anything is possible with photography.

Big D! Killer posts! It's great to see the lineage of such a great period and racing breed with pontiac! I love the big early 60's pontiac race cars. I wasn't around back then but I can say when I was in high school..('80's) no one ever spoke of high horsepower cars being any earlier than about '67 on. Those machines in 61,62, and 63 were some of the most potent street v-8's ever produced. I had no idea until many years later that kind of horsepower existed that early. We owe so much to those guys. The people at pontiac really loved what they were doing. You can tell. It's too bad the "edict" came down. Can't imagine where pontiac would have taken things...by 67? Who knows...700 hp pump gas rocket. By 68? 800? Great Picts.

Ahhh the good ole days. (Btw, yes that's a model.)

Bowties are for Pee-wee Herman. "Chevy": even the name sounds cheap, but not as cheap as your Pontiac will be with an LS transplant.

I would not go -2 on a street car. You have to increase total toe and tire ware will be and issue.
