Well, first test and tune is Feb 23 at VMP. Who is starting out? Going to be running Points again this year. Car has been in the garage with the water out of it and doing some adjustments. Changing the Trans (T-400) from a manual shift to an Auto. Should help with the consistency.

Will I ever be done?

Weather has sucked for the past 2 weeks and finally went yesterday. Great air and low temps. Running 11.42 at 6100 and 5800 shift points. Went to 5800 shift points and did a 11.46. Dialed in a 11.5 and ran a 11.496 at 5600 Shifts. When the heat hits it will be alright. The points race this year is 1/8 mile which is ok cause I am at 7.2s and all I will need is a jacket. BTW Jim builds the most awesome engines. 4 Years racing and no casualties.

Will I ever be done?

Are you using the good center support? That's one of the failure areas in a Turbo 350. Also the sprag.

Well..... *I* did ok. My reaction times are improving and getting more consistent. However the car had problems that surprised me. It was acting for all the world like it was running out of gas at about half track. All bumping the pressure up on the RobbMC big honkin' pump and the regulator didn't help. This past week I tore the whole fuel system apart, from tank outlet to carb inlet. Rebuilt the regulator, disassembled the pump --- everything looked fine. The only problem I found was some sediment in the fuel filter just after the tank. It didn't LOOK like enough to cause the problem but maybe it was, because when I put it back together and took the car out to attempt to recreate the problem, I couldn't.

There's another race tomorrow. We'll see.

Bear, tell us about your carb. If its a Q-jet, are you running the over sized Fuel Inlet Seat. Or the full race, Double over sized fuel inlet seat.
Standard seat: .100 to .125
over sized: .135
Full race: .149 - used with a regulator at max of 6PSI

From Cliff's Carb book- page 101

I was just thinking as i was installing the .135 in mine.

our first race is this weekend, weather permitting. there`s still a bit of snow about and it`s about 36deg during the day and -5 wind chill.

looking at -1000ft da for Friday shame they`ve just laid a new surface a month ago and the prep is not complete yet due to the weather. if I hook up I should be back in the 10`s

B&P, it's a gen-u-wine 455 SD QJet that has Cliff's needle/seat, float, etc in it. That was the 3rd time I'd had it on the track, and everything was fine (I didn't have this problem) on the previous two outings so I'm *hoping* it really was the sediment causing the problem. We'll find out this Sunday - there's another race.

Wow... what a difference a few days can make. Weren't we just talking about this somewhere?

Short version:
I took the car out Saturday afternoon for a "test run" on the closest freeway on-ramp. When I backed out of it, I smelled fuel. Being about 2 miles from home, I figured I'd just drive it home. Bad idea. 3 blocks from the house or so, it caught fire. It didn't take long to take out the ignition. I didn't have my fire extinguisher with me either. I coasted it up in front of the house, ran in and grabbed one, and got it out --- but pretty much everything from the carb back to the firewall on the top-center is cooked.
Of course I'm pretty sick about it and feeling severely stupid now for not immediately shutting it off and pulling over when I smelled fuel, but then it still might have run down and found a hot header, then it would have been much much worse.

So far Hagerty has been good. I'm waiting for an appraiser to come out now and assess so I can get to work on it.

It did soften the paint on the hood in a couple places enough that it shows. I don't know yet if I'll be able to sand/repair it without having to repaint.

Lambda meter - shows fuel mixture (o2 sensor.)

Bear, thats terrible luck! I just got an innovative kit in also, gonna wire it so i can leave o2 sensor in and just plug gauge in under dash when i want to check stuff, but not leave in car all the time, so i can use it on other projects.

Edit: just read that you can't leave O2 sensor in without power, so when done will have to take it out and leave plug in.
