I would guess yes, that some were made in 66, if they're like heads and everything else. a 428 is a rare bird these days, and some people really like them. If heads are off, see if there's a dish in the piston in the center. 428 pistons had that. $350 is worth it. I've considered trading my 428 to someone that wants it in exchange for a 455 but that hasn't come up yet. I ran mine with 6x-4s and XE262...was mild but nice sounding idle and definitely moved down the road. no idea what it would have dynoed.

My chevy buddy is a nice guy but he thinks the number of main cap bolts determines horse power. I think CB knows something about 428's.

Does the earth turn backwards when you mash the gas. If so, you probably need 4 bolt mains.

428 Casting numbers: 9786135 or 9792968 / '67-69

67 & 68 428s have 4 bolt mains; 69 also 4 bolt with exception on low performance blocks sporting #46 heads.

Mike these numbers are at the rear of the block passenger side. Also there must be a transfer lug pyramid looking protrusion or it's a 389 or 400 which don't have it.

There's a raised '428' cast upside down between the front and center frost plugs on the right side and between the center and rear frost plugs on the left side. There is a '28' cast in the lifter boss. My 68 block has 9792968 cast on the right rear of the block just below the head and above the oil filter adapter.
