Yesterday at VMP, Rick Holladay was out with "Jolly Green Giant II". Tony Menzie was there too, with his GORGEOUS '63 LeMans. Rick made it to the second round, where he went .004 "red". Running 10.40s "in the heat".

It was Tony's first time out with all the changes. First pass netted 10.90 @ 122. Second and third were 10.87 and 10.89 respectively, MPH holding solid at 122. 93 octane, and all the things that "don't work" (Comp XE cam, open plenum, Eagle crank, etc...)in our (CVMS) builds...(:- The car is FAR "over-geared" with 4.56s. As light as it is (just over 3K), I'd rather see 4.10s in it... I think it would go 10.60s with the change. MPH would go WAY up...

Mike,

It's the 236/242 @ .050 solid roller. We've sold probably 40 of those cams in the last three years... It doesn't have a cool nickname... But it works just fine regardless!

I figured it was some kind of roller, laying down those times! Good provable combination we can add to the database!

I like to call it "Mine".

interested in the rest of Rick's setup, as those times are cookin pretty good! I guess near 1000 lbs. weight reduction would help out my times significantly, as well as some drag radials... his times are 2 full seconds faster than my quickest to date. (same camshaft). looks like I have some work to do.

Hrm...how to shave 1000 lbs off. Well, i could lose 150lbs if i didn't drive it and put a 100lb featherweight chick in there. Maybe fill her half up and save some weight.

Guess i'm going to have to take the gun safe out of the back seat and my anvil collection out of the trunk if i want to get better times.

Jim,

I have seen this cam referenced as the "Jim Special"

Great cam for sure. Street manners and the ability to run strong at the track. What else can you want?

Misunderstanding here. TONY'S car has that cam. Rick's is a whole "nother" animal. That particular cam is the one we use for a strong street engine. Most are in 461s. Armadillo's 434 has it, too. Yes, same grind as Matt's.

Rick' is 254 @ .050 (int) and about .680" lift, 4/7 "swap", and now 11:1 compression. Still 434 CID. Rick's car has gone on a "diet", as has Rick... (:- He's down to about 3,300 "race weight". It's no longer a "street" car, "race" only. Next "up" he's trying a Dominator. I'll let you know when and "what".

UPDATE

Tony changed the torque converter and went back to VMP. 10.43 @ 124... No changes to the engine, including "tune". He picked up 1/2 a second by launching it much harder.

Rick,

It would be a slight "step back" in duration. I DO have a grind "for" you, though.

E-mail me "directly".
