I have standard "oxen" camel interior in my 79 TA, coded 62R. The driver's side seat is now quite brittle and cracking badly, so it's time to get new upholstery, front and rear.

Has anyone purchased and fitted the full set (front and rear seats) on their FB? Classic has a full set (front and rear) for $339, and new front seat foam for $130. Has anyone seen their product installed?

I purchased my first set for my 75 From Year One. Kids tore the drivers seat. The second set from Classic Industries. Both sets fit nice.

Bill Brett Campell of 78t/a.com has them I think cheaper than the other companies.

15 years ago I was considering replacing the upholstery on the driver's seat. I did't because I wasn't sure it would be a good match with the rest of the upholstery that was in very good shape. Sweat (perspiration) pretty much dried out the vinyl and it's failing and looks terrible. As with just about everything regarding the TA, I'd like to do the work myself. Brian Baker and his Dad, Jack, performed the upholstery replacement on Brian's white 79 TA and I recall Brian telling me about the wrestling match they had with it. Once of the things I got out of it was to turn the covers inside out and let them warm up in the sun. Warming makes the vinyl more pliable and easier to install.

TAMAN, did you perform the installation or did a shop do it for you? Did the product come with worthwhile instructions?

Conrad, I'll check into 78t/a.com. Thanks for the suggestion.

BTW, I also need preassemble door panels and new carpeting again. The carpeting is or should say was in great shape until the high UV rays in Florida discolored it. Can't show a car with all this bad stuff going on.

I would love to repaint the TA. My roof is shot. The clear coat is flaking off. It seems like yesterday that I performed the 6 month paint job on it. Prep work took most of my energy. Everything was done in the garage. "Yesterday" was 18 years ago!!!!! The original paint from the factory only lasted 13 years. It would have lasted longer but a sandstorm in NEW MEXICO in 1983 really cut its life span.

Bill. My Bird has valour material for it's seats. You don't get a big sweaty back on a hot day. Modern cars don't use vinyl for seat covers any more probably for that reason. If I had a TA with vinyl seat covers that needed replacing I would look to a cloth type seat cover for comfort and not worry about the originality. Just my 2cents worth

I did the seats my self. Don't know if the covers came with instructions. I have seen nany tv shows on the subject. Lots of books out there. If you drop the seats off to an upholstry shop, it should only be a couple hours per seat. I had my moms 65 mustang done. It cost me $275 in labor. They did a much nicer job than I did but, it was my first time. It's not hard. Just invest in the BEST hog ring pliers you can buy. Your hands will thank you. And the best time to do seats is on a hot summer day. :eave seat covers in the sun for a few hours to soften the covers up. Take some pics and use the other seat as a guide as how it was before you messed it up.

I paid to have mine installed, and it was worth it. I still have all of my fingertips...

Seat cover install is really not that bad. Be sure to set them in the sun for awhile to soften them up, and don't forget to buy a good pair of hog ring pliers. You may want to consider new foam as well. Whatever you do DO NOT do your own headliner. It will put you in the rubber room.

I did the headliner in my Challenger years ago, I invented new words. The newer cars with the glue in ones, no problem. Same goes for convertible tops. Did that on my GTO, never again. Maybe I just don't have the patience for it.
