Some guy wants to trade me his 85 Corvette for my 71 Lemans. Is the 85 Vette a decent year? The Corvette has a new crate engine and it looks real good. Im pissed at the fact that all the replacement parts I been buying for my Lemans the past few years are junk. Starters and alternators dont last 20 years no more. Alot of the Delco stuff is crapola. Hope I dont run into the same problem if I decide to do the trade.

What is the value of your Lemans? Is it worth more than $4,000. Many C4 Corvettes are worth less. Working on a Corvette isn't like working on your Lemans, it's more complicated. Think twice before doing it and read all you can about them before hand. When you know as much about Corvettes as you do about your Lemans, then you can make a reasonable decision.

Sounds like you've been buying starters and alternators from Pep Boys. The new Delco stuff is still good stuff. I had a similar problem in my old 92 GMC truck, tried replacing starters with those cheap $20 units from Pep Boys that only lasted 6 months. Replaced it with a GM-Delco starter and it went another 160,000 miles...truck had 319,000 on it when I sold it (it'
s still running today).

Keep the LeMans...there's no collector market for thos year Corvettes and it sounds like it's alreayd been used and abused...not to mention it will require annual or semi-annual emissions inspections regardless of what state you live.

THe 84 'Vette was one of the biggest piles of fiberglass junk... EVER.In 85,they were still sorting it out.Like Mongo said, you can't give them away.

I like corvettes but the early C4's are less desireable than the later C4's with the LT1 motor. TPI motors are weak from the factory I beleive the 85 had like 230hp in stock form. Its up to you what ever floats your boat. The Lemans will probably be worth more down the road if its not already than the 85 corvette. The late model C3's bring more $$$$ the early C4's. If you stuck on a C4 the best would be a ZR1 (1990-1993 at 375 -405hp), then a 1996 Grand Sport with the LT4 rated at 330 hp, then a LT1 rated at 300hp.

Ditto what they said. Early C4's were a POS. I personally don't care for the C4 at all. I haven't seen an early one alive in quite awhile either.

If you have issues with bad replacement parts for the LeMans, how is that going to change by obtaining a 25 year old Corvette? I had a friend back in 85 that bought a brand new 85 Vette. It was the second year of production on that model and the first year for TPI (vs. TBI in 84) It ran well for its time, but things were CONSTANTLY falling off of it and the video game style dash was a source of constant problems. And that was when it was NEW! I can't imagine dealing with that POS 25 years later.

FWIW.
