I was looking at some you-tube videos on plasti-gauge. I noticed some users place plasti-gauge between the rod bearing and rod journal then take the measurement. Others place it beween the rod cap bearing and rod journal and take the measurement.

Wondering if it makes a difference in the measurement how the plasti-gauge is placed? Is there a right or wrong method?

For mains I always place plasti-gauge between the cap main bearing and crank journal.

I've always used it between the crank and bearing on both mains and rods, but I could have been doing it wrong the last thirty years. ;)

I was taught to use light oil and place two or 3 pieces equidistant around the journal and torque to speck. Then average your readings.

Oh I see what your referring to now, but I've never had to tap a cap on that hard to where it would distort the plasti-gage. Mark your way seems like it would give the best representative measurement but could also show a journal being out of round.
