I have 2 8.5 inch 10 bolt differentials (both posi, one is 2.41 and the other is 3.23, using 2.41 for now)for my 1971 Firebird, both have some axle endplay (axles move in & out) which feels excessive to me. What, if any, are the specifications regarding axle endplay? How do I go about repairing my differentials if they are out of specifications? Thanks, Steve

.008 to .028 is gm factory specs. I could be off some on the upper number, I remember just below .030. There are vehicles driving around with a lot more than that though, even on newer vehicles. .050 or more...

Clutch type clutch wear can cause more axle end play. Pin wear on either clutch or cone type increases endplay. Axle bearings been replaced? Some of the new bearings and seals cause more endplay and it is difficult to fix even when working with new parts. Easier and better to just get the c clip eliminator sometimes imo. Jay
