Hello folks,

Today I got my Grand Prix back from body, and on the 30 mile trip back home the oil pressure hung around 15-20 at idle and around 40-45ish doing 60-65mph on the highway. Being that the compression is already suffering (130-145 between all cylinders) am I OK to drive this thing around with it like it is? The engine temp stayed between 160-170 on the highway drive and once I got on the local streets it crept up near 180 before I shut it down, but it did stay cool.

Thoughts? Engine will be pulled when winter arrives and freshened up. Thanks!

15-20 at idle is more than fine. I start worrying when i'm running 10-30, and it gets below 10 after being totally warm, at an idle around 500-700. 20 seems generous honestly, depending on oil thickness, last time it was changed, and idle speed, and where you're measuring it. As one person put it, measuring it down by the filter is a bit more optimistic than up at the top.

More importantly, if it's not getting worse and worse and instead stays the same, that matters more than that PSI it is.

Thanks! I was figuring since it isn't exactly that tight anymore that a little lower pressure is to be expected. And I did change the oil with VR1 10w-30 this spring.

I don't even consider 15-20 hot to even be low. If you somehow always had like 30 at idle and it suddenly dropped, well, something changed. But yeah, big motor, big clearances.
