Hey all,

I have a 1962 Pontiac that is finally running and ready for a rear gear. My question is, what kind of rear end do I have in this thing and what gear ratio would you recommend? ( it's the original rear end and I would like posi traction)

I'm running a 455 with a pretty heavily built turbo 400 by Hughes transmission. I am also running 29.5 inch cheater slicks on the rear. This is primarily a car I will drive around town, but I go to two car shows a year that are about an hour away, so I would like the option to take it on the highway.

Please help!

Those cars have the big 9.3" chunk type rear end. Parts for 'em are scarce & pricey nowadays. But there is one place that sells a good bit of 9.3 stuff.

http://fabcraftmetalworks.com/

I figure 3.42 gears will be plenty.

I think this site also sells some 9.3 stuff.

Well, pricey seems to be about par for the course on this damn car. Thanks for the help; this site looks to be just the place!
