So 4 years ago we got to debate politics here due to the upcoming election. I'm not overly political, it's just that I see a (another)train wreck coming, and I consider the guys on this site to be my peers. I'd like to know how they feel.
Whadda say Bill? Open it up for discussion?

As I remember, CB was one of the reasons the political threads and "Water cooler" got locked out 8 year ago. Not that I disagreed with him.

Perhaps we should "caucus".

Bowties are for Pee-wee Herman. "Chevy": even the name sounds cheap, but not as cheap as your Pontiac will be with an LS transplant.

I'm not in favor of socialism, so, Bernie (huge government) Sanders is out in the cold with me. As far as Mrs. Clinton is concerned, she will never get my vote. Her approach to life in general and her disregard for protecting government information disqualifies her from serving in any other public office again as far as I'm concerned.

I am supporting the Republican nominee--whomever it is.

I want to see a robust US economy, where manufacturing is rekindled and products made in the USA are common again.

I want to see a revamped VA, where veterans of all ages can receive timely care performed in a quality manner.

I want to see an improved foreign policy where states around the world see us as strong-willed and exceptional in every way.

I want our military to grow in manpower and to update, upgrade, and rebuild its military capability.

I want a Mexican-US border that prevents illegal persons from entering this country and to go all out in stopping drug trafficking.

I want the federal government to get smaller in every way. Fewer regulations that interfere with businesses growing is a must.

I want to see a less complicated tax code.

Obamacare is a monstrosity and needs to be revamped if not abolished and a competitive insurance market put in place cutting across state boundaries to reduce premiums.

We need to commit to defeating ISIS and to be relentless in protecting christianity here and abroad.

Political correctness is a cultural illness and needs to be far less prominent in what we think and how we say things.

Crime and uncontrollable crime in urban areas is a problem that will take time to correct. It is a cultural thing, and efforts to improve the job outlook for many may help reduce crime and save countless lives.

We need to promote the good things police do and begin to turn the opinion of many that the police are really there to protect all of us from one another.

We need to toughen up mentally as a nation of 322 million industrious people.

Bill, the items on your "wish list" are pretty much the same as mine. I just don't know if Trump will,or can,do it.
I know what we'll get with Clinton and Sanders. Trump seems to contradict himself so much that I don't really know where he stands on anything. He comes off as a loose cannon to me.

Having studied George Patton, there are many similar characteristics that Trump shares with this amazing general. Patton was insulting to some while being extremely polite and gracious to others. He spoke his mind and often would rethink his position when others raised their eyebrows or overly criticized his thinking or demeanor. What Americans like me want is a "winner" after seeing and feeling the embarrassment and overall declining spirit of this divided country.

Thomas Edison, Andrew Carnegie, JP Morgan, Vanderbilt, Ford were men of vision as well as "me" oriented. Each was pushed by ambition, and perhaps greed...but all excelled. Trump is much like them and our country needs a guy who can "win" again.

I don't see Trump as flip-flopping I see him as calculating and changing his approach after learning more about the situation. The main thing is he will push and push hard, like a bull in the China shop, but he's not psychotic, neurotic, or a split personality. He's a man with tremendous vigor and enthusiasm.

As far as success goes, even Babe Ruth struck out, Michael Jordan missed free throws and fouled out, Sandy Koufax did not win all this games--all of these men were the best there was at at their sport, certainly winners despite losses. Trump's business failures are few in contrast to the big successes he's had over the past decades. He's a guy that will gather smart and I mean smart and savvy people to work in "his" cabinet. They will be far superior in every way over what we've seen and experienced under President Obama.

If Trump wins the nomination and is elected President he will bring illegal entry into the US way down. I do believe it. He will also improve the economy, build the military and through his dealings and negotiations with commerce partners, vastly improve the job market in the good old US of A.

Personally I will be disappointed if Trump fails to win the Republican nomination, but I will support the nominee because Clinton will not do any of the things I listed in my previous thread. She can't be trusted, is deceptive and will lie outwardly without batting an eye. Moreover, I believe she was incompetent as Sec of State. She won no accolades with me with goings on in Egypt, Libya or Russia. She's not charming like her husband Bill, who is now aging poorly and has lost much of his charm and energy.

I could go on but my point is made about Trump and Clinton.

Like I said,I agreed with 95% of what you said.

Maybe premature at this point, but it looks like a lot of Republicans are not backing Trump. I'm afraid a 3rd party candidate will take a lot of the votes away from Trump,or some Republicans won't vote at all, then Clinton will win.

I prefer Ted Cruz, as I believe he feels the same way Trump does about many issues, but also has some gov. experience. I don't believe he is corrupt like most politicians. Would the dems work with him? Absolutely not. Trump may have better luck dragging them to his way of thinking.

Bluebird you have a very good point, this post should not exist on this forum per my own description of what is inappropriate.

In the past, political talk became quite nasty between posters and that was going to ruin participation on the forum. I didn't what that nastiness to undermine the forum and participation among Pontiac hobbyists so things had to come to a screeching halt.

With Drake initiating this thread, I took the bait and voiced my opinion on what I'd like to see with our country. Nobody cares what I think on the subject nor should they...therefore, rather than to appear arbitrary and capricious with the rules I am locking it. We'll all find out in November which direction our country will be heading.

The end.
