It'd be hard to find a use for those unless you went like 500 cubes or a blower application. I'd think first $50-$100 or scrap them.

Don't forget they don't make factory heads anymore. You can make them into a good set of heads with some work but it's up to you. I've got a set as well and I'm not giving them up.

1969 Firebird 461, #62 iron heads, Comp roller, Performer RPM, Q-Jet Turbo 400 w/ Continental converter. GM 8.5" 10 bolt with 3:73 gears.11.50's@ 119+ MPH

There have been enuff Pontiac parts scrapped--actually FAR too many !

I think these 4x big chamber heads could be used for a numbers matching '73-'74 Bird, GA, GP, and maybe even a '73 GTO resto--probably others.

There are also some Stock class drag cars using these, I think. NHRA rates those 455's with 4x heads, at over 300hp. Some of the high compression D-port 400's were not rated much higher. Not everybody wants or needs 9.5 & up compression, and 500 + hp.

So, if you can't sell 'em, at least offer to give 'em to somebody who can use 'em. We need to save all the Pontiac engine parts we possible can. There may come a day, when guys will be glad to have even the low compression heads.

Actually, there were some low comp 455's that made decent power, with lots of torque, even tho they were undercammed. Anybody remember 455HO & SD455 engines ?

There are also quite a few 4.5 strokers being built nowadays, that are around that 500 cube number. That would make a decent pump gas sleeper, huh ?

I had them on my 74 '455 motor. I switched to 6x-8s, which put it at 9.3ish IIRC. I can't imagine wanting to go back into the 8's, unless of course going numbers correct. That motor had a lunati in it if i remember, decent driver for the little i drove it before stuffing the motor away for 10 years until it went into my 71. Nothing like even the XE cammed 6x-8 though, that was in the 430hp range.

I think max hp on those with stock cam and all was like 3000rpms?

Iron headed sleeper big cuber or blower motor, likely good strong candidate!

I believe if you search around a bit you'll find that 4X heads were bad about cracking.
