Hi, I am driving a 64 Catalina, 389 and t700R4, standard 3.42 diff, with standard training arms, new bushes.

Had a slight vibration at about 70mph so decided to check the pinion angle. WOA!!! All stock the engine/trans are 3 degrees down (ie. back is lower than front of engine, BUT the diff is the excat opposite (ie. diff yolk is 3 degrees, lower at the yolk than at the housing.. this is exactly opposite to how I think it should be. Diff pinion should be parallel to the crank, and the crank should point down slightly, front to rear.

BUT the diff and arms are 100$ 1964 stock.... or is it? What gives? Did Pontiac do something really strange?

Cheers and thanks

Most pinion angle are pretty much straight to pitched down 3 when sitting stationary. Have another person in the car put the car in gear and apply the brakes and see what range of travel the pinion has power braking.

What trans did your car have originally? Jay
